Bio

Kelis Rogers-Mora, known professionally as Kelis, is an American singer, songwriter and culinary talent. At fourteen years old, she was accepted into New York's esteemed Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, where she developed her skill in playing the saxophone and won a place in the Girls Choir of Harlem. After graduating high school in 1997, Kelis took on a number of roles before making an impact in music with an album track entitled "Fairytalez," performed by the rap group Gravediggaz. That led to her signing with Virgin Records in 1998, releasing her debut Kaleidoscope in 1999 - an album inspired by 1970s jazz and disco. It became a critical and commercial success, producing three hit singles - "Caught Out There," "Good Stuff", and "Get Along With You" - and receiving gold certification in the UK. Her next project, Wanderland (2001), was not received as well, though 2003's Tasty made sure Kelis was heard, with the singles "Milkshake," "Trick Me," "Millionaire" (featuring André 3000), and "In Public" (ft. Nas). In 2006, she released Kelis Was Here and its lead single "Bossy," reaching #10 on the Billboard 200. Going on hiatus from music following this project, Kelis started to pursue her passion for food, going on to study at Le Cordon Bleu. She eventually made a comeback in 2010 with Flesh Tone, before releasing Food in 2014. Recognised at the Brit Awards, Q Awards, NME Awards and Grammy Awards, the six-million-copy selling artist is no stranger to collaborating with various artists, including Busta Rhymes and Clipse, Calvin Harris, Björk and Enrique Iglesias. Her songs have also been successful throughout the UK, ten of her singles having peaked within the top ten of the UK Singles Chart.
