Napalm Death is an English grindcore band originating from Meriden, West Midlands. Established in 1981, their lineup has seen a single shift with the addition of Jesse Pintado in 1989 to a total of five members. However, since Utopia Banished (1992), the four-piece of bassist Shane Embury, guitarist Mitch Harris, drummer Danny Herrera and lead vocalist Mark "Barney" Greenway has remained solid. Apart from their extraordinary staying power, Napalm Death has also gained widespread attention for their pioneering sound which blends together aspects of crust punk and death metal with overpowering guitars, deep bass notes, machine gun drumming, frantic vocals, and sociopolitical lyrics. This unique blend made its first appearance on their debut album Scum (1987) and has carved out a lasting legacy within the heavy metal community. Additionally, the Guinness Book of World Records have listed the song “You Suffer” as the shortest piece of music ever recorded at 1.316 seconds long. Napalm Death have released sixteen studio albums over the years, making them the seventh-best-selling death metal band in the United States according to Nielsen SoundScan.
