Bio

German professional ice hockey goaltender Philipp Grubauer, drafted by the Washington Capitals in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, has had a decorated career. He was part of the 2008 U18 World Championships and 2009 World Junior Championships with the German national team and even won the Memorial Cup with the OHL's Windsor Spitfires in 2010. In 2018, Grubauer hoisted the Stanley Cup with the Capitals and in 2015, he made history by becoming the first German-born goaltender to start and win a Stanley Cup playoff game. Now, playing for the Seattle Kraken, Grubauer wrote his name in the Kraken history books as the first goaltender to record a shutout in February 2022.
