Bio

Born on July 22, 1973, Rufus McGarrigle Wainwright is a celebrated Canadian-American singer, songwriter and composer. His melodious tunes enthrall listeners across the globe, having released 10 studio albums and countless tracks on compilations and film soundtracks. Not only has Wainwright delivered powerful renditions of some of music's greatest hits, but he has also composed two classical operas and set Shakespeare's sonnets to music for Robert Wilson's theatre piece. His debut album, simply titled 'Rufus Wainwright', was released through DreamWorks Records in 1998, followed by 'Poses' in 2001. This was followed by the double album 'Want' in 2005, comprising of his third and fourth studio albums, 'Want One' (2003) and 'Want Two' (2004). Subsequent albums 'Release the Stars' (2007), 'Rufus Does Judy at Carnegie Hall' (2009), 'All Days Are Nights: Songs for Lulu' (2010), 'Out of the Game' (2012), 'Prima Donna' (2015) and 'Take All My Loves: 9 Shakespeare Sonnets' (2016) cemented his place in music history. Most recently, Wainwright released his 10th studio album 'Unfollow the Rules' on July 20, 2020. As the son of musicians Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle, as well as the elder brother of singer Martha Wainwright, it is no surprise that music was embedded into his life from the very beginning.
