Bio

The Four Tops have earned their place in musical history as one of Detroit's defining Motown sound groups of the 1960s. This iconic quartet consisting of Levi Stubbs, Abdul "Duke" Fakir, Renaldo "Obie" Benson and Lawrence Payton stayed together for over four decades, entertaining audiences with their soulful analyses of R&B, jazz, disco, doo-wop, adult contemporary, and show tunes from 1953 until 1997 without a change in line-up. Alongside the Miracles, Marvelettes, Martha and the Vandellas, Temptations, and the Supremes, the Four Tops made their mark on the world's music industry during the booming 60s. Uniquely, Stubbs was a baritone as opposed to most other vocal quartets of the era who were fronted by tenors. Working closely with the renowned songwriting and production duo Holland–Dozier–Holland, the Four Tops produced chart-topping hits like "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)" and "Reach Out I'll Be There" which peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 respectively. The Four Tops continued to achieve success into the 1970s, with their million-selling single "Ain't No Woman" topping the charts in 1973. Venerated in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Vocal Group Hall of Fame and Rolling Stone's Greatest Artists of All Time, The Four Tops still perform to this day with Abdul Duke Fakir as the last remaining original member.
