Bio

The Jackson 5, often referred to as the Jacksons, is an American pop band founded in 1964 in Gary, Indiana. Formed of five members of the Jackson family, Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and Michael, the group were one of the first African American acts to reach a mainstream audience. After signing with Motown Records, they released four consecutive number one hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with "I Want You Back", "ABC", "The Love You Save" and "I'll Be There". The band went on to achieve a total of sixteen Top-40 singles on the chart. After leaving Motown for Epic Records in 1976, the group released four studio albums and one live album between 1976 and 1981, including the successful Destiny (1978) and Triumph (1980). In addition, each member released solo albums - the most successful being Michael's. In 1983, Jermaine rejoined the group for the Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever TV special and the subsequent Victory album and tour. Michael and Marlon then left the group and the remaining four released the 2300 Jackson Street album in 1989 before being dropped from their label. In 2001, the Jacksons reunited for Michael's 30th Anniversary Celebration TV special and a 2012 Unity Tour took place following his death. It is estimated that The Jackson 5 have sold over 100 million records worldwide, earning them a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1980 and a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. Two of their songs ("ABC" and "I Want You Back") are listed among the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll, alongside "I'll Be There", which was also inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
